Melanoma vaccination is a treatment for patients that have been diagnosed with a malignant melanoma of the oral cavity or area surrounding the toe nail. This treatment is recommended for some patients after they have undergone surgery to remove their tumor.

 

The vaccine works by stimulating an immune response to tyrosinase protein which is found in melanoma cancer cells. This treatment is used after surgery or radiation and surgery have been performed to reduce the risk of metastasis (spread) of the cancer.
